Celebrating 14 Years of FUMP: Community, Connection and Culture
In 2025 dance music is all show and no substance. But not at FUMP. FUMP is built for underground culture, connection and real community
At Mettle Works we know that music is about way more than just sound. It’s a primordial phenomenon that connects us as people and stimulates every single sense.
From crystal clear sound perfectly delivering every frequency, the physical pressure of kicks and sub bass thumping against your chest, the hallucinogenic quality of the lights, the transfer of energy between the artist and audience…..
Live music has the power to forge unforgettable memories and bring people together with life affirming experiences
At Mettle Works we have the capacity to deliver music in a way that Chelmsford has never seen before. Our raw, unpolished blank canvas gives performers and promoters the freedom to design events and shows as grand as their imaginations.
The scope to experiment across our multiple settings, from the vastness of the Warehouse or the intimate surrounding of The Trap, enables the artists to deliver a show the forms greater bonds with their fans.
Whether it be live performances or club nights, Mettle Works brings together the most exciting acts from all walks of music, alongside the very best local talent, to propel Chelmsford’s music scene back into the national consciousness and continue the regions rich musical heritage.
Our city and surrounding areas have featured in the history of acts like of Nitzer Ebb, The Prodigy, Blur, Squarepusher, Hot Chip and Ceephax Acid Crew that have all gone on to sell out shows all over the globe.
We have a rich history of world class festivals. Hylands Park has hosted the worlds biggest names at V Festival, Creamfields South and Radio 2 In The Park.
But now, for the first time, Chelmsford’s music scene has a permanent home for large scale music events, and that home is Mettle Works.

Some say live music is dead. Those who attended Chelmsford’s Electronic Music Open Mic (or EMOM for short) at Mettle Works on Friday got to experience live music as it should be experienced.

The rising force in the UK punk scene, Bridget. brought a whirlwind of raw unbridled energy as she shot her latest video, Hairspray, in multiple spaces throughout Mettle Works last month.
